John Massey
Founder and Chief Executive
John Massey was born in Melbourne Victoria in 1947, and from the age of two onward was raised by his Grandparents. His Grandfather, a licensed Electrical Contractor, exposed John to the Building Industry from a young age. This inspired, and ultimately led to John completing both a Refridgeration Mechanic Apprenticeship and Plumbing Apprenticeship at his Grandfather's business which had become a Plumbing & Air-Conditioning Equipment Manufacturer.
By 1968 John had commenced his own Plumbing and Air-Conditioning Contracting business, employing 29 qualified staff and successfully contracting with Local, State and Federal Government Projects as a preferred Tender Contractor. John became a member of the Master Plumber's Associate (MPA) and then ultimately a Committee Member of the MPA's Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Chapter. By 1972 he had also commenced a Building Contracting business and became a member of the Master Builder's Association, and also became a Property Developer. Between 1974 to 1978, John developed more than 100 Industrial Factory Complexes primarily in Dandenong, Victoria, which meant commencing construction of one Industrial Building every two weeks with a time frame of three months to construct each 770m² building.
John incorporated Massey Corporation Limited in 1980 which then became Listed on the ASX in 1990. MASCOR Developments was the Development arm of the Property Portfolio Group of businesses.
In 1980 MASCOR began construction of several three-storey apartment blocks in the Broadbeach and Mermaid Beach area, and several two - three storey Office Buildings in Southport on the Queensland Gold Coast. Development of the Tamborine Village Shopping Centre in the Scenic Rim Hinterland had commenced when MASCOR was approached by Ansett Transport Industries and Ansett Freight Express to design and construct purpose built Transport Depots in the Nerang area of the Gold Coast. Purpose built Learn to Swim Centres were developed for Mark Tonelli an Olympic Gold Medalist at Nerang and Tweed Heads.
Other notable MASCOR developments on the Gold Coast include Luxury Homes at Runaway Islands, and Shopping Centres in the Gold Coast Hinterland at Mt Tamborine and Canungra.
In 1999 John purchased a failed Aluminium Window Fabrication business. He quickly restructured and re-branded the business to Windows on-line Pty Ltd and created a shopping basket website to allow online ordering 24/7. It was a huge success and he ultimately sold the business in 2007 when Chinese imported products began competing for the Australian market.
Recently MASCOR commenced several industrial developments in Boonah, Aratula and other South-East Queensland regions.
